WHO CAN ATTEND ARKANSAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF (ASD)?

• In order to be eligible to attend ASD, a student must have a documented hearing loss, be a resident of Arkansas (or have executed an out-of-state tuition agreement with ASD) and be between the ages of 2 to 21 years, on the first day of ASD’s academic school year. 

HOW ARE STUDENTS REFERRED TO THE SCHOOL FOR ADMISSIONS CONSIDERATION?

• For preschool or school-aged students:

• Parents/Guardians may either apply directly to the school for admissions consideration for their child    OR

• The respective school district may submit a referral on behalf of a child. 

In either case, eligibility approval and admissions approval will be needed from Arkansas School for the Deaf (ASD) as well as from the child’s home school district.

• If your child is aged 2 to 5, please request a referral from the Preschool co-op in your local school district.

• If your child is ages 5 to 21, please request a referral from your home school district.

• For children birth to three years of age:

• If your child is aged birth to three, please contact our Statewide Services Department.

AFTER A REFERRAL IS MADE, WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP?

• Once a referral has been made, and all necessary documentation is submitted to the ASD Admissions department, an ASD Admissions Team meeting will be scheduled to review the application based on the Arkansas School for the Deaf admissions policy. ASD’s admissions personnel will guide you through the application process. If you need assistance, please contact our Admissions Department.
