The Arkansas School for the Deaf (ASD) has a proud tradition of excellence in Athletics. Our student-athletes excel in the classroom as well as on the field and court of play. ASD Athletics promotes fair play and sportsmanship and is preparing the student-athletes to be leaders on and off the court.
The ASD Athletics Program is a member of the National Deaf Interscholastic Athletic Association (NDIAA), a member of the Great Plains Schools for the Deaf (GPSD) Conference, and a member of the Arkansas Activities Association (AAA). ASD Athletics Program offers 7 programs: Volleyball, Football, Cheerleading, Basketball, Track & Field, Special Olympic and Academic Bowl. ASD participate in GPSD volleyball, basketball/ cheerleading, track & field, and triathlon tournaments.
The ASD Special Olympics teams are a member of the Arkansas Special Olympics Association and participate in state flag football, golf, bowling, basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, swimming, and track & field.
The mission of the Athletic Department: Athletics should be an educational experience. The Athletics Program at Arkansas School for the Deaf aims at providing a healthy, enjoyable atmosphere conducive to the growth and development of every participant. Participation in Athletics is a privilege, not a right. This theme should be stressed to student-athletes/team members. Each Student-Athlete/Team Member must meet the requirements and expectations of both the school and the team in order to be eligible to participate.
The athletics schedule often changes, games may be canceled, postponed or relocated. Please call, check our ASD Website, ASD Facebook or call to confirm the schedule before you come to an athletic event.
